Suggested Itineraries

In order to ensure an unforgettable stay in Liguria we have created a series of interesting day-trip itineraries that will help you to discover the natural, historical, and artistic beauty of this magnificent region.

THE CINQUE TERRE: Be sure not to miss the magnificent views in the National Park and Marine Area of the Cinque Terre (approximately 20 minutes from the hotel by train). Visit the five spectacular and historic villages of Monterosso, Corniglia, Manarola, Vernazza, and Riomaggiore. Enjoy the breath-taking landscapes from scenic hikes along the Via Amore, passing between terraced vineyards and olive groves along the unspoilt coastline; look out for marine life along the way.

PORTOFINO AND CAMOGLI: Visit Camogli, the former "city of a thousand white sailing ships", and the 10th century Abbey of San Fruttuoso on the Portofino promontory, which is only reachable either on foot or by sea across the Portofino National Marine Reserve. Enjoy the enchanted village of Portofino as well as the more worldly villages of the Italian Riviera such as Santa Margherita Ligure and Rapallo.

PORTOVENERE AND LERICI: At the eastern end of the Italian Riviera lies the historic coastal town of Portovenere, overlooking the islands of Palmaria and Tino. This whole area is part of the ancient Lunigiana territory, which is rich in archeological tresures. Across the bay from the city of La Spezia are the attractive coastal communities of Lerici, Tellaro and Montemarcello, while a little further east the town of Sarzana is famous for its antique markets.

SESTRI LEVANTE: Known as "the city of the two seas", Sestri Levante has breath-taking views and artistic beauty beyond comparison that have attracted tourists since the 1800s. Every year at the end of May, the Andersen Festival also attracts artists from all over world to the city. The sandy beaches of Riva Trigoso and Borgo Rena are only a ten minute walk from the hotel. Get close to nature along the walking trails that start from the hotel, passing through the Punta Manara, Punta Baffe, Punta Moneglia promontories

GENOVA: Named the European Capital of Culture in 2004, Genova (Genoa in English) is a must-see for all who visit the Ligurian Riviera. Of special interest are the completely renovated ancient port (Porto Antico), the historic centre with its characteristic narrow alleys (carrugi), Via Garibaldi with its Renaissance palaces, the Saint Lorenzo cathedral, and the largest aquarium in Europe. Also not to be missed if you are there in October is the International Nautical Show.

THE COUNTRYSIDE AND VALLEYS: Within a short drive from the hotel you can find the Fontanabuona valley, famous for its black slate ("Ardesia Stone") quarries and caves, the Gambatesa Mine where you can experience a modern mining museum within an operating underground manganese mine the Aveto National Park with its walking trails along the Alta Via in the Ligurian Mountains, the 11th century Borzone Abbey, the ancient town of Varese Ligure, now famous for its organic products, and Mt. San Nicolao with its remains of a Roman hospital ("Ospitale di San Nicolao") hidden within the pine forests.
